Playground Safety

PURPOSE

To meet the requirements set out by the Ministry of Education (MED), Kids Come First Child Care Services has developed and implemented a Playground Safety policy. This policy is intended to provide all staff with the Centre’s supervision and programming expectations and fulfill all requirements to meet CSA Standard and regulations set out in the Child Care Early Years Act (CCEYA).

POLICY

Kids Come First and its satellite program, in accordance with The Ministry of Education (MED), has adopted the new CSA Standard as an indicator of whether a playground is in a safe and clean condition and kept in a good state of repair. Compliance with CSA Standard must be verified in writing by an independent inspector and a copy must be submitted to MED.

CSA STANDARD

Equipment Requirements

Kids Come First will ensure that all play spaces and equipment in any playground the Centre uses complies with the CSA Standard.  All damaged or worn out components are to be repaired or replaced to meet the CSA Standard.  Any proposed alterations or renovations shall be installed to meet CSA Standard and shall be verified by a Certified Playground Safety Inspector in order for Kids Come First to use any play space and/or equipment.

 Surfacing Requirements

Kids Come First will ensure that all existing and new surfaces provide and be maintained to provide acceptable shock-absorbing performance regardless of age of site. Regular maintenance of surface (raking, lifting, sweeping, redistribution) must be provided on an ongoing basis. Periodic testing of installed protective surfacing is recommended.
